NCLEX & Exams

Entrance Exams

Many nursing programs now require an entrance exam to help them determine the best qualified students. Due to a shortage of nurse educators and accredited nursing programs, most nursing schools are impacted and have waiting lists. These exams help to determine which students are most likely to succeed in nursing schools and remain in the nursing profession.

The NCLEX

In the U.S. and it's territories, graduates of RN and LPN/LVN (practical nursing) programs are required to sit for a licensing examination called the National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX for short.

This exam measures the competency of the new nurse graduate to safely perform the duties of a registered or practical nurse.

The National Council of the State Boards of Nursing administers this exam. More information about the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN is available from their website.
